Hot on the heels of this morning’s leak of the alleged front panel of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, a new photo purportedly shows the battery of Apple’s next-gen smartphone. The image seems to support rumors of a larger iPhone, requiring a larger battery.
Published by Nowhereelse.fr, the image shows a supposed iPhone 6 battery with its tell-tale metallic section (present on current iPhone batteries) in a different place. That suggests a different internal layout for the iPhone 6.
Although it’s hard to tell, the battery also appears slightly larger than current iPhone power sources. Like the iPad Air and iPad mini, the iPhone 6 will likely use low-power Sharp IGZO display tech to improve battery life, but even so, a 4.7-inch display will require more energy to power than current 4-inch models. However, a larger battery — coupled with a larger Sharp IGZO display — should still represent a significant boost in battery life compared to current models.
There’s starting to be too much smoke for there to be no fire, at least as far as a larger iPhone 6 is concerned. Even Apple’s executives know that larger smartphones represent a major growth opportunity for their business. With manufacturing for a fall release starting to ramp up, expect a lot more corroboration of these rumors, if previous years’ leaks are anything to go by.
