Here’s what is new:
This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:

Nice update.
OTA is here! 5.0.1
OTA not working for Verizon iPhone 4…. Not showing an update is available.
UPDATE: Connected my iPhone 4 to a wifi hotspot, rechecked settings and update and OTA started working. HOORAH!
But dont forget if you are interested in jailbreaking your iPhone 4S then you should stay away from this update. Some people expect their battery to last days on end which isnt possible.
A few tips to improve battery life.
1. Remove apps from multitask bar when not in use
2. Keep the screen brightness in between 60% & 80%
3. Turn off bluetooth or wifi when not in use. (continues to search even when not using wifi/BT)
4. Disable the “Setting Time Zone”. Settings > Location > System Services.
If you follow these simple rules then you will notice longer battery life guaranteed.
Lovin’ that OTA. Worked flawlessly!
how long does it take for ppl here to update it.. mine downloaded in couple of minutes but after installing its stuckd at verifying update..
The battery issue is for devices running iOS 5, NOT just the iPhone 4S.
Jesus Christ, Brownlee … they actually pay you to write the stuff you put on here? I do more research before posting an article to my blog for God sakes.
This update took as long to download and install as the original iOS 5. I did plug in to download the almost 800 MB update because the OTA was showing I was up to date .
Best thing is that multiple gestures is back on the original iPad.
Relax :) Deep breathes.
790mb!! I thought with the new OS, that was a thing of the past?
Check the OTA update in your Settings app.
The iPhone 4 weighs in at 45mb via a delta update.
Apple never once said that iOS would stop being a 700mb+ OS, but the new feature of iOS 5 is that you now longer NEED to download the entire OS to update, as you can simply do an OTA delta update that changes only the required files.
However, for those who wish to do clean installs, the option exists via iTunes to download the full ipsw for restore purposes.
Edit: “NO longer need to download the entire OS”.
On iOS5 my iPad 2’s battery was at 100% then I did the update through the ipad2 and had to plug it into a power source and once I had the update my battery was at 97% so I am happy that seems to give me some more battery and I checked apple.com to see if I can finally upgrade to the iPhone 4s cause at&t said I had to wait until the 16th but it says I can upgrade now! Today is a good day! Now lets just hope that 1-2 week wait turns into a few days!
I am so happy that they adds multitasking gestures for my original!!!! that is all i WANT!
I am so happy that they adds multitasking gestures for my original iPAD!!!! that is all i WANT!
Can’t wait to get home on WiFi and give it a go.
I’m over an hour and the backup isn’t halfway done. It’s looking like 1.5 hours.
If you’re downloading and updating via a computer you WILL download and install the full update. If you are doing it OTA, then you will just receive the Delta portion of the update, which is smaller than the full update.
Anyone notice that text/iMessages are not listed by contact’s name but the contact phone number now?
took me about three minutes to download and then another 5 to install.
So far seems no difference. 2 hrs and battery is at 86%.
Has anyone had luck with improved battery life with the new patch 5.0.1?
Sorry Matty, haven’t had that problem.
OTA update went smooth. Battery life is WORSE with 5.0.1 update. 20% battery drain in less than an hour with light/normal use. Not happy! :-(
OTA update working perfect. 7min. and done…. and battery life hmm i’m not sure…
I’ve had my phone unplugged, connected to WiFi with Bluetooth on but not connected for 2.5 hours, and it’s at 98%. No word on what battery’s like when it’s in use, but a 2% drain in 2.5 hours seems to me to be a HUGE improvement.
Isn’t there a bug in this version where you are vulnerable to malicious apps?
OTA went perfectly. Nothing like the iOS 5 update..
Ladies and gentlemen, upgrade your compatible ‘i’ devices now, this one is legit.
3.1. Turn Airplane Mode ‘ON”
Does the OTA version ios 5.0.1 fix the battery drainage issue?
yah … not at all impressed with this update. my battery drains faster now doing jack squat than it did before. i did mine OTA, and it sucks rocks. going to re-install the whole thing using the dock and see if that improves it because right now, this thing will be dead in 4 hours doing absolutely nothing.
After updating phone no longer charges
Update did not work. Left my phone uncharged over night, have turned off Siri, Notifications, Wifi, Location Services, personal hotspot, icloud, facetime, twitter, bluetooth, etc and lost 35% of the battery over night. My iPhone 3G lasts 3 times longer. Sending my iphone back to apple.
No difference , ifNo difference. I’m at 86% after just under 25 mins of usage. If anything I think it’s got worse.
I haven’t noticed any problems with my 4s battery at all. Of course since I was stepping up from the 3G, there was nowhere to go but up. I’m sure some people are having a legitimate problem. I just have not had that problem.
Oh yeah, and I have NOT done the update to 5.0.1.
So I did the update and my battery life is worse, if that’s possible. Now what?
My battery life is worse now. Now What??? Also, when will I be able to get my ringtones back that I purchased?
My battery actually went dead in like 2 hours with nothing on just laying ther doing nothing ???
