A release date for much anticipated 2024 iPad Pro and iPad Air will come in early May, according to a reliable source of Apple information. Fans of Apple tablets have been on tenterhooks as the announcements for these had been expected weeks ago.

This will reportedly be the debut of the first iPad Pro with an OLED display plus the largest iPad Air model yet.

2024 iPad Pro and Air iPad release date now expected in May

No new iPad models came out in 2023 at all, and the tablet drought continues. That’s why there’s so much excitement about the upcoming Pro and Air models.

Details on them have been leaking out for many months, some pointing to a March release — a traditional time for iPad launches. This later slipped to April.

Meanwhile, those ready for a new iPadsOS tablet have been left waiting and waiting.

And now the latest leak indicates the 2024 iPad Pro and Air release date won’t be for over a month. Bloomberg reported Thursday:

“Apple Inc.’s overseas suppliers have ramped up production of the company’s long-anticipated new iPads and a launch is planned for early May.”

Supposedly, they’ve been waiting on a tweaked version of iPadOS, but that’s not all. “The screens in the latest models also require complex new manufacturing techniques, which have contributed to the delay,” reports Bloomberg.

New features build excitement for Apple tablets

Many leaks indicate that the highlight of the 2024 iPad Pro will be an OLED (short for organic light-emitting diode) display in which each pixel glows on its own. This leads to a bright, even image with strong contrast. These will allegedly go into both the 13-inch version and the 11-inch one.

OLED screen panels don’t need backlights so they’re thinner than traditional LEDs. This will reportedly allowed the designers of the upcoming Pro to make the upcoming tablet significantly slimmer.

Also supposedly coming soon is the first 12.9-inch iPad Air. The previous largest version includes a 10.9-inch display.

The current iPad Air 5 from 2022 runs an Apple M1 processor that debuted in 2020. The 2022 iPad Pro has a M2 chip. The upcoming version of each will reportedly jump to the M3 that premiered in the latest MacBook Air.

We’ll get all the official details on the 2024 iPad Pro and Air when the release date finally, finally arrives.
