Apple’s rumored OLED iPad Pro will reportedly be significantly thinner than existing models. The switch to slimmer Organic Light-Emitting Diode panels will make this possible.

Besides the thinner chassis, the 2024 OLED iPad Pros will have slightly bigger dimensions than its predecessors.

M3 iPad Pros might stand out with their slim and sleek design

Apple already uses OLED displays on iPhones. However, these panels are expensive, which explains why the company has not used them on iPad Pro or MacBooks yet. Instead, Apple uses a miniLED screen on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with the smaller 11-inch model using a regular LTPO LCD panel.

While these displays are impressive, they fall short of the brightness, colors, and contrast an OLED panel offers. The latter is also significantly slimmer, allowing manufacturers to make their devices lighter and thinner.

Apple will take advantage of this switch to make its 2024 iPad Pros a lot slimmer as well. A 9to5Mac report claims the 2024 12.9-inch iPad Pro will measure 281.5 mm x 215.5 mm x 5.0 mm. If accurate, this would make the tablet significantly thinner than the M2 iPad Pro, which measures 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 6.4 mm.

The smaller OLED 11-inch iPad Pro will also get a major waistline reduction. It will reportedly measure 249.7 mm x 177.5 mm x 5.1 mm vs. the M2 model’s dimensions of 247.6 mm x 178.5 mm x 5.9 mm.

Sadly, if rumors are accurate, the OLED display and slimmer chassis will cost you. The new iPad Pros could be up to $160 more expensive.

Bigger iPad Air also in development

The report again confirms that Apple is working on two new iPad Air models, including one with a bigger 12.9-inch display. Purportedly, the 10.9-inch Air will look similar to the existing model, with a spec bump likely being the key highlight.

As for the 12.9-inch iPad Air, it will allegedly measure 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 6.0 mm.

Rumors indicate Apple could launch the 12.9-inch iPad Air and OLED iPad Pros in late March. Supposedly, the third-gen Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard will also launch alongside the new iPads.
