Early reports may have overstated the cost increase resulting from adding an OLED display to the first iPad Pro. New information indicates the price jump will be less than half of what had been previously rumored.

The high-end tablet is expected to launch in March/April.

2024 OLED iPad Pro will only cost a bit more

With Organic Light-Emitting Diode displays, each pixel glows on its own. This leads to a bright, even image with strong contrast. The screens look outstanding, but they cost more than traditional LCDs.

Ever since the first leaks that an OLED display was coming to iPad Pro, there have been warnings that this would require a very significant escalation of the price. One tipster even claimed the cost would jump a whopping $700.

There will be an increase to the price tag, but it will be considerably less, according to a report from DigiTimes published on Tuesday. Buyers should supposedly prepare themselves to pay up to $160 more. If true, that will put the 13-inch model at about $1,259 and the 11-inch model at around $959.

DigiTimes is based in Korea, and has sources in the companies that supply components for Apple devices. This allows it to make somewhat accurate predictions about future Apple products.

A speed increase for Apple’s premium tablet

A series of previous leaks on the 2024 iPad Pro reveal many of its features, including that will come with the new Apple M3 processor that’s also used in some 2023 MacBooks. That’ll improve the tablet’s performance without affecting battery life.

Also, the larger model will supposedly sport a 13-inch screen, up from the 12.9-inch ones of its predecessors. It’s considered likely this won’t be accompanied by a bump in the overall size of the tablet. The 11-inch version will apparently stay the same.

Along with the new tablet, Apple is reportedly working on a redesigned Magic Keyboard. It will feature a larger trackpad and make the tablet look more like a laptop.

The first 12.9-inch iPad Air will probably premiere at the same time as the OLED iPad Pro revamp. Leaks say the launch will be in March or April, as noted.
