Apple released visionOS 1.0.3 to users of the Vision Pro on Monday. It’s the first to go out since the launch, and is primarily a bug-fix patch.

That said, the new version deals with a problem that previously sent some users to an Apple retail store looking for technical assistance.

visionOS 1.0.1 update brings fix for forgotten passcodes

Vision Pro isn’t a simple VR gadget. It’s a sophisticated and powerful computer that uses augmented reality as its user interface. Naturally, it runs on a full-featured operating system. This is called visionOS, and it needs periodic updates — like all OSs.

Apple’s official release notes for visionOS 1.0.3 say, “This update provides important bug fixes and adds an option to reset your device if you’ve forgotten your passcode.”

The last few words are the important part. Before this release, anyone who forgot their Vision Pro passcode had to take the headset to an Apple store to be reset.

That was a hassle in general, and a serious problem for anyone who’d taken their Vision Pro outside of the United States — the necessary service wasn’t available in other countries.

More Vision Pro updates are on the way

For those confused about how visionOS 1.0.3 could be the first update since the launch on February 2, the previous updates all came out before the headset actually began reaching customers. Even so, early users of the device needed to install version 1.0.2 as soon as they received the unit.

But that’s in the past. Looking ahead, Apple is already beta testing visionOS 1.1, which reportedly will make users’ Personas look less eerie.

Apple did not issue updates for its other operating systems on Monday. Cupertino remains hard at work on iOS 17.4, macOS Sonoma 14.4 and other new versions. However, we don’t anticipate those to arrive before March.
