The M1 Ultra Mac Studio set a new benchmark for computing power in a package smaller than Mac Pro when it came out in spring 2022. Today’s setup sparked discussion about the relative merits of the powerful desktop machine, with one user citing a surprising point of praise — the Mac Pro braided power cord!

Mac Studio braided power cord is awesome

Redditor orglickman (“Org”) showcased the setup in a post entitled, “My Mac Studio setup.” He noted he runs his M1 Ultra Mac Studio through a CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 dock to drive dual 27-inch Dell monitors on a double mount, one in landscape orientation and one in portrait (vertical).

The Mac Studio generated some commentary in the post. One user in particular had some unusual praise for the powerful desktop computer. Their emphasis appears in bold below:

My new Mac Studio just arrived last Thursday and I haven’t been able to carve out the time from work to get it hooked up yet (probably this afternoon or tomorrow morning). It’s my first new Mac since my 2018 Mac Mini, after years and years of getting MacBook Pros before that.

Guess I’m saying all of this to remark that the Mac Studio has by far the nicest power cord for any computer I’ve ever handled in my life — not just the feel of the braided sleeve but it seems to be as flexible as rope (and devoid of any memory of being bent or kinked, if that makes any sense).

That does, indeed, sound like a phenomenal power cord. In fact, maybe Apple should advertise the Mac Studio braided power cord specifically as a killer feature. My 2021 M1 Pro MacBook Pro’s power adapter with MagSafe cable brings to mind that same flexible braiding. It seems like it would be difficult to tangle up even if you tried.

That said, Apple’s M1 Ultra Mac Studio has some even more marketable attributes, if you can believe it. (You know, stuff like formidable computing power with its two M1 Max chips fused into M1 Ultra)

The user, an architect, went on to say they switched to the powerful desktop machine after years of using MacBooks, and Powerbooks before that. You can read more of their history in the post‘s comments section.

And if you like the wallpaper showing on the displays, you can find it in macOS Sonoma.
