There’s good news for those who subscribe to both Apple TV+ and Paramount+. Friday brought word of a potential bundle of these streaming video services that would save subscribers money.
If the unconfirmed report pans out, it’ll be the first such deal for Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ and Paramount+ bundle in the works?
Apple TV+ series regularly make it to the top of the popularity charts, but the streaming service itself remains one of the smaller competitors in a field dominated by Amazon and Netflix. The same is true for Paramount+. So teaming up to provide better value to subscribers could make sense.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the two “companies have talked about offering a combination of Paramount+ and Apple TV+ that would cost less than subscribing to both services separately.”
Apparently, bundling streaming services makes customers less likely to unsubscribe from one or the other. “Offering multiple services as part of one package decreases the likelihood that subscribers will cancel on any given month, according to data from Antenna, a subscriber-measurement company,” said the WSJ.
So the deal would be a win for both Apple and Paramount. They both have to deal with what the streaming industry calls “churn” — consumers signing up, watching everything they want to see on a certain service, then canceling their subscription. The churn rate for both services surpassed 7% in October, according to Antenna. That’s above the industry average.
If a discounted Apple TV+ and Paramount+ bundle sounds good to you, don’t hold your breath. Discussions between the two companies about deploying such a bundle are only in the early stages.
