The cost of watching Apple TV+ series and movies just went up 40%. A monthly subscription is now $9.99.

The price for Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and Apple One also increased. But the cost of other services, like Apple Music, remains the same.

Significant cost increase for Apple TV+

Apple makes a lot more than iPhone, Mac and iPad. It also offers services, and these made up 22% of the company’s total revenue in 2022. But it seems Cupertino wants more because it increased the cost of many of these on Wednesday.

Previously, the Apple TV+ video streaming service had been $6.99 per month. But Apple now says, “A monthly subscription is just $9.99 per month after a free seven-day trial.”

That’s for commercial-free viewing of the series and films that Apple offers. It has a growing collection of mostly original content, though its catalogue can’t come close to matching what’s available on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix or Disney+.

But some of these other streaming services have also recently increased their subscription fees so Apple’s service is more affordable. The cost of Netflix’s Standard plan is $15.49 per month, the price of an ad-free Disney+ subscription recently jumped to $13.99 per month and a Hulu ad-free subscription is $17.99 per month.

The cost of Apple TV+ last went up a year ago, in October 2022. Before that hike, the service was only $4.99 per month, half its new price.

Apple Arcade and Apple News+ are more expensive, too

The Apple Arcade gaming service has cost $4.99 per month since it launched in 2019. But not any more. A subscription is now $6.99 per month, according to Apple.  That’s a 40% jump.

It offers subscribers access to over 200 games that can be played on iPhone and iPad, and many can also be enjoyed on Mac and Apple TV devices.

And the Apple News+ service also just went up in price, going from $9.99 per month to $12.99 per month. That’s an increase of 30%.

Apple One also hit with price increases

Apple One bundles multiple services together into a single subscription, so it’s not surprising that its fees went up Wednesday as well. An Individual plan is now $19.95 per month, a Family plan is $25.95 per month and a Premier plan is $37.95, according to Apple.

Previously, the monthly subscription fee for the Individual plan was $16.95, the Family plan was $22.95, and the Premier plan was $32.95.
