Looking for a spare new iPad for casual use? Or maybe to use as a portable monitor while on the go? With Amazon knocking $59.01 off the iPad 9’s price, it is a terrific device for such use cases.

The 9th gen iPad is already the cheapest tablet in Apple’s lineup. Add in Amazon’s latest discount, and it becomes an even better deal for $269.99.

iPad 9 is a great casual use tablet

Look elsewhere if you want an iPad with powerful internals and a modern design. But if you want a tablet for basic casual use and content consumption, the 9th gen iPad will work just fine. Compared to the iPad 10 and M1 iPad Air, the iPad 9 has chunky bezels surrounding its 10.2-inch display. You also get a Touch ID-integrated Home button on the bottom bezel, which has now become a relic in Apple’s ecosystem.

Ticking inside the iPad 9 is an A13 Bionic, the same chip that debuted in the iPhone 11 series in 2019. Despite its age, the A13 Bionic still delivers a respectable performance. Sure, you cannot run Final Cut Pro on the iPad 9, but it can run regular apps like Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube without hiccups.

The iPad 9 is also a great tablet for video calls, with its 12MP Ultra Wide front camera supporting Center Stage. This feature will automatically place you in the center when on video calls. And if you are the person who clicks pictures using their iPad, there’s an 8MP rear shooter.

Apple has entirely shifted to USB-C across its iPad and iPhone lineup. But the iPad 9 still uses a Lightning connector, so hopefully, you have not thrown away all your Lightning cables yet.

Save $59 on the iPad 9

For $329, the iPad 9 offers respectable value for money. But when you add the $59 discount Amazon offers, it becomes an even better deal. For $269.99, you won’t find a better tablet on the market. Remember that the entry-level iPad 9 ships with 64GB base storage. So, if that’s not enough for you, consider getting the 256GB model. It is available with a bigger $89.01 discount, which brings its price down to $389.99.
