At this point, considering the cinematic chops of iPhone cameras — especially in the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max — we expect to see full-length feature films. But we’ll take another “Shot on iPhone” pop music video like the one Apple’s pushing for Olivia Rodrigo’s song “get him back!”
The sassy music video, shot entirely on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, dropped Tuesday along with the arrival of the new iPhone 15 lineup.
Shot on iPhone 15 Pro: Olivia Rodrigo ‘get him back!’ music video
Apple put out the new music video on its YouTube channel, where the teaser version that leads into other Apple videos netted about 514,000 views so far. The other videos include a guided tour video of iPhone and iPhone 15 Pro and the Mother Nature comedy segment from the Wonderlust keynote.
You can see the teaser video below. The full version of the video, only on YouTube, has netted 1.7 million videos in 20 hours on YouTube, ranking number 4 among trending videos.
New iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max camera features
The video, shot on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max by director Jack Begert, uses some new camera features. The highly active shoot took advantage of 5x zoom on the Pro Max, for example. And its production relied on Pro Res 4K log and USB-C external drive compatibility, Apple said.
In several scenes, fancy editing makes it look like a whole pack of Rodrigos are on the move, singing about how they want to get a guy back so they can hurt him. “Get him back” has a double meaning, and it’s doubly mean.
The video stars Rodrigo, but iPhone 15 Pro makes a solid co-star. The handset appears in shots several times, held via grip in the hands of filmmakers and by Rodrigo herself, doing video selfies.
Other recent “Shot on iPhone” videos include a showcase of iPhone 14 Pro’s Action Mode, the short action-comedy Huracán Ramírez vs. La Piñata Enchilada and a video about Trip the dog receiving a prosthetic leg.
