A new YouTube video commissioned by Apple demonstrates how well Action Mode in iPhone 14 stabilizes tricky, action-packed video shots without any special equipment.

And every handset in the iPhone 14 series has the feature, so you, too, can be an action movie director.

New ‘Shot on iPhone’ YouTube video shows off iPhone 14’s Action Mode for stabile vids shot while moving

If you’ve seen many movie sets, you’ve probably seen cameras mounted on various devices to put them in motion for complex action shots. One special piece of equipment is a gimbal, which can pivot in various ways.

But specialized equipment isn’t cheap or easy to use. So it’s a good thing the iPhone 14 series has Action Mode, which stabilizes video shot while the handset is in motion.

In the new “Shot on iPhone” video, a crew puts an iPhone 14 Pro through its handheld-video-shooting paces in various scenarios. Each time, they show an unstabilized version and a stabilized version using Action Mode.

In the first one, a skater takes footage of a skateboarder, then hands the iPhone off to a runner who sprints up a ledge, still shooting, to emulate a crane shot. The normal version is chaotic while the Action Mode version is remarkably smooth.

Other examples involve a shooter running alongside a basketball player, then jumping off a small trampoline to capture a slam dunk, and a cyclist shot from inside a truck tire rolling alongside (the guy holding the iPhone must’ve been dizzy after that one).

While the unstabilized shots show a million little jerks, making the video hard to watch, the Action Mode version looks like a movie. Sounds like it’s time for you to shoot the next blockbuster action flick. And you can read more about the great iPhone 14 cameras.
