Epic Games Fortnite was just added to the Amazon Luna cloud gaming service. That means the very popular game is playable on iPhone and iPad, as well as Mac.

Because of a dispute between Apple and Epic, Fortnite has been banned from the App Store since 2020. But it’s now on Luna.

Amazon Luna adds Fortnite Battle Royale to its library

Fortnite is one of the world’s largest games with over 350 million accounts. But don’t look for the software in the App Store because, as mentioned, it’s a victim of a nasty court fight.

But that doesn’t affect Amazon Luna — this cloud gaming service runs in a iPhone or iPad web browser and is therefore unaffected by App Store rules. And, as of Wednesday, Epic Games’ title is available on the service.

Fortnite has been the most requested game from Luna customers in the U.S. and we’re thrilled to bring the title to the service,” said Daniel Rausch, VP of Amazon Entertainment Devices and Services, in a blog post. “We’re committed to making gaming more accessible and more affordable, without the need for expensive hardware.”

Luna isn’t the only option, though. The game is also playable on iPhone via the Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

Not a stripped-down version

Fortnite Battle Royale pits 100 players against each other until only one survives, and is now playable via Luna. Amazon Prime members can start playing the game today as part of their Prime membership, or access it via a Luna+ subscription. The same goes for the Creative version of the game, too. This is true for subscribers in the US, Canada, Germany and the UK.

And Amazon promised, “Luna customers can also participate in Fortnite seasonal events, play islands developed with the recently announced Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and link their existing Epic account to progress their Battle Pass.”

Amazon’s cloud gaming service lets Mac, iPad and iPhone play top-quality titles with an external controller. These run on remote servers with only the video being streamed to players like a very interactive film. Read the Cult of Mac review of Luna+ to learn more.
