tvOS 16.4.1 is out to deal with some bugs in Apple TV devices. This comes several days after new bug-fix updates for iPhone, Mac and iPad.

A fresh tvOS update means there’s new HomePod software, too.

Time to update the Apple TV and HomePod

iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 went out April 7, along with macOS 13.3.1. But Apple TV devices didn’t get a system software update at that time.

That’s now changed with Wednesday’s release of tvOS 16.4.1. It is for all versions of Apple TV 4K as well as Apple TV HD.

The official release notes could not be more vague. Apple says only that “This update includes performance and stability improvements.” Still, the update is recommended.

HomePods run a modified version of tvOS, so it’s no surprise that HomePod Software 16.4.1 is also out. It’s release notes are identical to the tvOS ones.

For those keeping score, only watchOS has not been updated recently. Even AirPods got new firmware this week.

How to install tvOS 16.4.1 and HomePod Software 16.4.1

To download and install the latest software update, go to the Settings app on the Apple TV. Then click through to System, then click on Software Updates, then click on Update Software.
