Apple TV+ dropped the trailer (below) for the new limited drama series The Last Thing He Told Me Thursday, and it looks like a gripping thriller with a loaded cast.

Based on a bestselling novel and starring Jennifer Garner along with other familiar faces, the show premieres April 14.

The Last Thing He Told Me trailer showcases suspenseful story, ensemble cast

Given that the series is based on the No. 1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Laura Dave, it’s no surprise the trailer looks so suspenseful.

The book cleaned up on awards in 2021. It won Apple Best Book of the Year, Goodreads Choice Award for Best Thriller/Suspense and Amazon Best Book of the Year.

Here’s how Apple TV+ described the show’s basic plot:

The series follows Hannah (Garner), a woman who must forge a relationship with her 16-year-old stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice) in order to find the truth about why her husband has mysteriously disappeared.

Cool cast

“Your husband is not who you think he is,” people of apparent authority tell Hannah, ominously. And the husband who suddenly goes missing is someone you might recognize from a little show called Game of Thrones. He’s the Danish actor who played one of the lead characters, Jaime Lannister.

In addition to Garner (Alias, Peppermint), Rice (The Nice Guys) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), the seven-part drama’s ensemble cast features Aisha Tyler (Criminal Minds), Augusto Aguilera (The Predator), Geoff Stults (Unforgettable) and John Harlan Kim (Pandora).

Apple TV+ pointed out the cast members above in its press materials but left out two who pop up in the trailer, trailing their decades-long resumes: veteran actors David Morse (St. Elsewhere, The Green Mile) and Victor Garber (Alias, Titanic). Perhaps their roles in the series are small. But their presence adds credibility.

Hello Sunshine collaboration

The author Dave created the series alongside Academy Award-winning co-creator Josh Singer, her husband. They both serve as executive producers alongside Garner and Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.

Other Hello Sunshine shows on Apple TV+ include the recently renewed psychological thriller Surface, SAG and Critics Choice Award-winning series The Morning Show and the NAACP Image Award-winning drama series Truth Be Told with Octavia Spencer.

Olivia Newman directs the pilot episode The Last Thing He Told Me, leading off an all-female director lineup. Other directors taking part include Deniz Gamze Ergüven, Daisy Von Scherler Mayer and Lila Neugebauer.

The first two episodes premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 14. Then a new episode airs on Fridays through May 19.
