Announced in mid-October, Apple’s latest streaming box—the 2022 Apple TV 4K—is now on sale. Pre-order customers are also receiving their units today.

The newest Apple TV 4K is faster and cheaper than its predecessor and has Thread support to control your smart home devices.

New Apple TV 4K is both slim and powerful

Externally, Apple’s latest streaming box has the same design as the 2020 model. It is, however, 10% thinner and 50% lighter. This is due to Apple switching to a faster A15 Bionic chip and ditching the internal fan. That chip also leads to significant performance improvements, with Apple claiming a 50% CPU performance uplift and a 30% faster GPU.

Thanks to the extra horsepower, the new Apple TV 4K can play back HDR10+ videos. Besides the streaming device, you get the new Siri Remote in the box that features a USB-C port for charging. Its functionality remains unchanged, though.

Another highlight of the 2022 Apple TV 4K is Thread support, though it is only available on the 128GB model. This variant also has a dedicated Gigabit Ethernet port. The entry-level variant only has Wi-Fi connectivity and 64GB of storage.

Get the Apple TV 4K from your nearest Apple Store

If you did not pre-order the Apple TV 4K, you can now get it from the nearest Apple store or an authorized reseller. The streaming box has gone on sale in over 30 countries beginning today. The entry-level Apple TV 4K model in the US is priced at $129, while the 128GB variant is available for $149.

Pre-order customers are also getting their units delivered today. The Cupertino giant started taking pre-orders for the Apple TV 4K right after its announcement in mid-October. It also announced the M2 iPad Pro and iPad 10 on the same day, and both of them went on sale last week.
