We like Friday Setups posts to be on the fun side. We look for entertaining gear, wacky decor and exotic locations. Today we found a Dutch guy who works in IT management via his M1 iMac.

That doesn’t sound especially fun, but he also wields a pretty badass electric guitar.

He runs the axe into a Focusrite audio interface and listens to his musical creations on a killer set of cans, too.

Netherlands-based IT management specialist and Redditor “Skoap” displayed the setup in a post entitled, “Home office M1 iMac setup.”

He runs a 24-inch M1 iMac with a Magic Keyboard and a Logitech MX Vertical wireless mouse used as input devices. The vertical mouse is designed with ergonomics in mind, of course.

“I really like the Logitech MX Vertical, wouldn’t go back to a normal (horizontal?) mouse,” he said.

Not 4K, not 5K — it’s 4.5K

The iMac sports a 4.5K Retina display with 4480 x 2520 pixel resolution, P3 wide color gamut and 500 nits of brightness. The M1 chip delivers powerful performance with an 8-core CPU and a 7-core GPU.

The machine features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with M1 ISP for crisp video. And a three-mic array enables clear calls and voice recordings.

“I really like the iMac, the M1 chip is great,” he said. “It’s fast and no fan noise during online meetings. The only downside is that it’s mainly used for work.”

Musical endeavors

But the iMac’s not only used for work. While Skoap works in IT management, he also dabbles in music for fun.

Connected to his computer is a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface, designed for use with one instrument and one microphone.

He plays a Charvel Joe Duplantier Signature Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 2 HH E Mahogany solid-body electric guitar. That “HH” means it has two double-coiled humbucker pickups, as opposed to the single-coil pickups often found in that Fender Telecaster-style guitar.

For cans — so he can listen to himself play and the recording he makes without disturbing the neighbors — Skoap uses Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones. They feature an over-ear, closed-back design with a built-in bass-reflex system. They’re suitable for studio-level recording and monitoring.

Skoap also uses the highly customizable Sleeve desktop music player app.

And if you like the “Ai Dreams” desktop wallpaper on the display, you can find it here.
