Apple TV+ revealed that the psychological thriller Surface from Veronica West will premiere on July 29. It stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, best known for appearing in Apple’s critically acclaimed The Morning Show.

The upcoming series asks, what if you woke up one day and didn’t know your own secrets?

Surface is a ‘sexy, elevated thriller’

Mbatha-Raw stars as Sophie, a woman with extreme memory loss as a result of a traumatic head injury that’s believed to be a result of a suicide attempt. She tries to put the pieces of her life back together with the help of her husband and friends, but then begins to question whether or not what she is told is the truth. Apple promises twists and turns and an unexpected love triangle.

Surface is written and exec-produced by Veronica West, who has previously worked on High FidelityMercy, Brothers & Sisters, Hart of Dixie and State of Affairs.

Also in the cast are Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House), Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk), Ari Graynor (I’m Dying Up Here), Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies), François Arnaud (I Killed My Mother) and Millie Brady (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).

Surface, which Apple calls a “sexy, elevated thriller,” will have its global premiere on Friday, July 29, 2022 on Apple TV+. The first three episodes will debut that night, followed by one new episode weekly. There are eight in total.

Watching comes with a $4.99-per-month subscription to Apple’s streaming service.

More Apple TV+ collaborations with Hello Sunshine

Surface is produced for Apple TV+ by Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company.

Other joint projects include The Last Thing He Told Me, based on a bestselling novel and starring Jennifer Garner, as well as My Kind of Country, a global search for unconventional and extraordinary country music talent. Both are still in development.
