Apple made news recently with its apparent plans for a 35W charger with an amazing two USB-C ports (not a new thing, mind you, just new for Cupertino). Now that unfolding scenario seems even later to the party when you consider Nomad’s release Tuesday of its most powerful gallium nitride (GaN) charger to date, at 65W. And of course the potent little thing features dual USB-C ports.

Notably, the new Nomad 65W Power Adapter is also a real product you can buy now, not something on the drawing board. And it’s only about the size of an AirPods case.

Nomad 65W Power Adapter packs dual USB-C ports and a lot of power in small footprint

On Tuesday Nomad rolled out its most powerful GaN charger so far, the dual-port 65W Power Adapter. For an AC adapter about the size of an AirPods charging case, it packs plenty of power. At that size, it’s a lot smaller than Apple’s single-port 67W adapter.

The new adapter’s upper port can power up a MacBook at 45W while its lower one juices an iPad or iPhone at 20W, for example. Or it can top off any combination of gadgets, be they Apple or otherwise.

When charging a single device, either port provides the full 65W output. When charging two devices at once, the top port supplies 45W and the bottom one delivers 20W.

The small size is made possible by GaN technology, which allows components to be packed more closely together for more efficient operation.

Nomad’s new adapter sports a clean gray and black finish with foldable prongs to make it smaller for stowing.

The new Nomad 65W Power Adapter is available and shipping now direct from Nomad for $69.95. Other options in the Nomad GaN lineup include the 20W and 30W chargers, each one smaller than Apple’s versions.
