The bad news is the 2022 basic iPad 10 will be a simple “speed bump” update, according to a tipster. But the good news is it will reportedly be followed by a redesigned version in 2023.

While the 10.2-inch iPad doesn’t often make headlines, its $329 price draws in plenty of buyers. Any change is sure to affect many people.

2022 iPad 10 stays the course

Apple has updated the budget iPad every year going back to 2017, so it’s not much of a stretch when when tipster Dylandkt said via Twitter on Monday that a new version “is coming out towards the end of this year.”

But they also predict that the iPad 10 will offer better wireless networking with 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. Plus, the tablet will supposedly be faster thanks to a an Apple 14 processor, up from the A13 in the current model.

Still, the iPad 10 will reportedly keep the same design as its predecessors, with an 10.2-inch screen and Lightning connector.

Pricing for the 2022 model is unknown at this time.

Set your sights on the 2024 iPad 11

The last major redesign for the budget iPad was in 2019, when it went from a 9.7-inch screen to a 10.2-inch one. But Dylandkt says the 2022 edition “will be the last model before a redesign is to take place in 2023.” However, they don’t have any details about what will be included in the face-lift.

There are some obvious possibilities. The basic iPad is Apple’s last tablet that still has a Home button — a redesign could drop that and go with an edge-to-edge screen. This change as well as squarer edges would make the tablet look like other Apple devices. The iPad mini line recently went through this same process.

The iPad mini 6 also replaced the Lighting connector with USB-C. That’s another change possible in the 2024 iPad 11. The change would allow the tablet to charge with the same cable as MacBook, and use many Mac plug-in accessories.

The launch of the last three basic iPad models came in successive Septembers — it seems likey the the 2023 will model will appear that month too.

Judging the trustworthiness of this info comes down to the reliability of the source. Dylandkt is somewhat mysterious but has come through with solid leaks in the past. They have a 77.5% accuracy rate according to AppleTrack.
