A trio of classic games have been updated just for Apple Arcade. That includes Angry Birds Reloaded, Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City and Doodle God Universe.

All three debuted Friday on Apple’s subscription gaming service.

Not new but improved

To be clear, these three games are not new. They are updated versions of classic ones. There are new characters, new levels and/or a new look.

One additional difference is that any and all in-app purchases from the originals have been stripped out. Apple’s gaming service bans these, along with ads and loot boxes.

Other classic games also recently jumped to Apple Arcade, including Monument Valley and Fruit Ninja Classic.

Angry Birds Reloaded

The famous Angry Birds flock will return in a remastered version that includes colorful new characters. The developer, Rovio Entertainment, promises “visual enhancements, new characters, and plenty of destruction.”

Gameplay hasn’t changed, of course. You’re still using slingshots to shoot irritable fowl. But there’ll be new birds, new pigs and a new game mode. This involves the eagles wreaking havoc in a series of new levels.

Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City

First there was Alto’s Adventure in 2015. Next came Alto’s Odyssey, which debuted for iOS back in 2018. The games involves sandboarding through exotic locations, with the followup adding wall-jumping, balloon-bouncing and other mechanics to keep things interesting.

The updated “Lost City” version now on Apple Arcade builds on that. “Join Alto and his friends on an endless sandboarding journey with new adventures to explore and mechanics to discover,” says Apple.

Doodle God Universe

Doodle God is a world-building game that involves mixing and matching different combinations of fire, earth, wind and air to create a universe. You start with microorganisms and work up to create animals and later people.

The new version offers an improved look. “The classic world-builder has been fully redrawn, with new updates that make the puzzle gameplay feel even better,” says Apple.

Apple Arcade on the App Store is the place to start playing Doodle God Universe.

All three of these games are available for iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV. And they support both touchscreens and game controllers.

Playing any of them requires a $4.99-per-month Apple Arcade subscription. Still, the service comes with close to 200 other games. And more are on the way almost every week. Last Friday brought Ultimate Rivals: The Court, which has players from the NHL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NFL and US women’s soccer all facing off in an arcade basketball game.
