You can get the best part of this year’s Apple TV update — the totally redesigned Siri Remote — at a healthy $9 off from Verizon Wireless right now. It’s the first discount we’ve seen on the new Apple TV remote, and it drops the price to just $49.99 with free shipping.

By buying the remote separately, current Apple TV owners gain major benefits while avoiding the big (and mostly pointless) investment in the pricey new set-top box. And you don’t need to be a Verizon Wireless subscriber to jump on this hot deal, either.

The new Siri Remote, released in April with the second-gen Apple TV 4K, brings a serious upgrade to your streaming experience.

A new clickpad replaces the hated touchpad from the old Siri Remote (and also channels the iPod’s beloved click wheel). The revised remote is thicker than the previous model, so it won’t disappear as easily between your couch cushions. And the asymmetrical design means no more fumbling around in the dark trying to figure out which end of the remote is up.

The Siri Remote, which comes with the latest Apple TV 4K, is compatible with two previous set-top streamers. It works with first-gen Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD. Apple sells the Siri Remote separately for $59.
