Apple’s next-gen AirPods Pro will feature updated motion sensors for fitness tracking and arrive in 2022, according to a Bloomberg report Friday.

This would be in keeping with Apple’s increasing focus on the fitness and wellness field, both with Apple Watch and its Fitness+ subscription service. AirPods Pro made their debut in October 2019, and have not been updated since.

Apple also reportedly tested a stemless design — perhaps similar to unreleased Beats earbuds recently spotted in an Instagram picture from LeBron James. However, it remains unclear what the next-gen AirPods Pro will look like. Apple reportedly will announce the new Beats earbuds next month.

The Bloomberg report also says Apple is gearing up to release new entry-level AirPods later in 2021. This would be the first update for the regular AirPods since March 2019. Echoing previous reports, it suggests that these will use an AirPods Pro-style design, and come with a new charging case.

Finally, the report says Apple is not currently working on a follow-up to the $549 AirPods Max headphones. However, the company is supposedly considering launching different colors in the future. The current AirPods Max come in space gray, silver, sky blue, green and pink color options.
