Bidding farewell to a terrible year!

Mario Kart Tour is so over 2020, and ready to take on the nothing-can-possibly-go-wrong utopia that is 2021.

With that subtext, the popular Nintendo racing game has released its last update of the year, kicking off the New Year’s 2021 Tour. This tour, which runs through January 12 or 13 (timezone depending), features a plethora of new tracks.

Check out the trailer below.

One of the big tracks featured in the trailer is Rainbow Road. This final course of the Special Cup has featured in every Mario Kart game to date. It’s always the climactic course in each game, making it appropriate to ring out 2020.

This isn’t the first time Rainbow Road has appeared in Mario Kart Tour. However, this is likely to be a different course to the ones we’ve seen so far.

In addition, there are sure to be a smattering of new characters in this update — although it’s not yet clear exactly which ones these will be. As ever, the tracks are available only for the duration of the tour. But any characters you earn during that time are yours to keep.

You can download Mario Kart Tour for free from the App Store. While the game features in-app purchases, these aren’t necessary for you to enjoy the title. According to Apple, this was the most downloaded App Store game of 2019. Based on the number of updates it has received through 2020, it seems likely that it was also a big hit this year as well.
