If Spotify remains your main streaming music listening platform, there’s some good news: the streaming giant has finally released an iOS 14 widget that lets you quickly access recently played artists, podcasts, and albums in a single tap.

There are both small and medium-sized versions of the widget. The smaller of these shows your most recently listened to item. Meanwhile, the medium-sized widget offers a more luxurious, five most recent items array.

As TechCrunch points out, the widget neatly changes color according to the predominant color in the album art you’re playing at the time. It’s a neat aesthetic touch — although, perhaps, one that’s going to annoy any Home screen customizers who have worked hard to create, say, a monochrome appearance for their iOS 14 device.

The Spotify iOS 14 widget is available as part of the latest Spotify app update in the App Store. Such widgets already exist for Apple Music. The two leading music streaming companies have been trading features back and forth for some time, with each pulling ahead at different points. For instance, Apple Music followed Spotify’s lead in embracing podcasts. More recently, Spotify added a feature already offered by Apple Music, letting users search for songs by lyrics.
