When Apple gets into the foldable phone market, as arch-rival Samsung has already done, its first model might well look much like the iPhone 12 Flip. But for now, this is only a concept design.

The proposed design was published by ConceptsiPhone. This YouTube channel gives artists a place to share proposed Apple designs.

The proposed “trailer” for this iPhone concept says, “All-new iPhone 12 Flip is HERE with Quad Camera, Innovative Flip Display, Wonderful Colors and FlipOS 14.”
As its name suggests, this design includes a folding touchscreen on the inside. This folds horizontally, producing a tall-and-thin display. There’s no sign of a “notch” or a front-facing camera.
Plus, there’s a smaller screen on the outside that’s always available. Also on the exterior is a trio of camera lenses and a LiDAR scanner — features expected in the real iPhone 12.
Taking on Samsung
While Apple is still just exploring the folding phone market, arch-rival Samsung recently took the wraps off its third.
This iPhone concept design is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which debuted winter of 2020. Both these take a different tack from the Galaxy Z Fold 2, unveiled last week. Like the original folding Android from Samsung introduced in 2019, this latest handset folds vertically to create a mini tablet.
It’s not known what design Apple will use for a folding iPhone. But the company is undoubtedly considering one. It received a patent for flexible batteries in April. And earlier this year it got one for an innovative hinge mechanism designed to prevent flexible displays from creasing.
