Brilliant iOS 14 concept makes us want Home screen widgets now

iOS 14 concept includes multiple widgets
Widgets might be coming to iPhone, and they’re demonstrated in this iOS 14 concept.

iOS 14 will supposedly include Home screen widgets, and a concept artist dreamed up a design. His short video is sure to excite anyone who’s ready for their iPhone’s main screen to become more dynamic and informative.

iOS 14 concept images the near future

The iOS 14 concept created by Aleksey Bondarev shows how an applications icon could expand into a widget on command. And the designer shows a number of examples. Useful weather information, the number of recent Instagram likes, and upcoming calendar events could all be shown on an iOS Home screen with widgets.

“Some applications are so simple and can display all the basic information before opening,” said Bondarev. “I find this an interesting addition to the main screen, but I also think it will be a little difficult for developers.”

Android developers have been making widgets for years, but Apple always resisted putting these on the iOS Home screen.

iPhone widgets are a real possibility

However, Bondarev’s iOS 14 concept isn’t coming out of the blue — an image supposedly giving a small glimpse of how widgets will look in on a future iPhone leaked in early April.

And that wasn’t the first detail of the next iPhone to surface. In February, screenshots of a new iPhone multitasking layout appeared. The public found out that iPhones might soon act as car keys in March. That same month included details of iOS 14’s built-in augmented reality viewer. Many of these supposedly came from a preliminary copy of iOS 14 obtained by hackers.

The official announcement of iOS 14 is expected in just a few weeks. The 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off June 22, and that’s the traditional venue to show off the next iPhone operating system.
