Steve Jobs is coming to the radio. Through the medium of song, that is!

With theaters closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Seattle Opera plans to treat listeners to some much-needed opera by broadcasting some of its past performances on the radio (and streaming them online). Apple fans might want to tune in for Grammy-winning opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, which tells the story of Apple’s iconic late co-founder and CEO.

The full shows will air on Seattle radio station Classical KING FM 98.1.

“Seattle Opera and KING FM are thrilled to be able to bring beautiful music and storytelling to our audiences’ ears,” Seattle Opera General Director Christina Scheppelmann said in a statement. “Many thanks go to all the artists who make Seattle Opera what it is, and who have allowed us to share their talent with the airwaves during these unprecedented times.”

The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs premiered at Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico in 2017. It ran in Seattle from February through March 2019. John Moore, who has previously performed some of the biggest roles in opera, played Jobs. A preview of the Seattle show from last year read:

“Starring in the role of the turtleneck-clad mogul is acclaimed baritone John Moore who wowed Seattleites as Figaro in The Barber of Seville and as Papageno in The Magic Flute. Moore is joined by returning singers Adam Lau as K bun Chino Otogawa and Morgan Smith as Paul Jobs. Making company debuts are Emily Fons (Laurene Jobs), Garrett Sorenson (Steve Wozniak), and Madison Leonard (Chrisann Brennan).”

Steve Jobs opera will broadcast in June

Playing The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs comes, perhaps coincidentally, at the perfect time. Later this year, the opera was due to come Jobs’ old stomping ground. However, the San Francisco Opera recently said the planned June 20 through July 3 run will no longer take place due to COVID-19.

The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs will be broadcast on Classical KING FM 98.1 at 10 a.m. Pacific on June 13. That’s right around WWDC time.

If you’re an opera fan, the Steve Jobs opera isn’t the only opera coming to Classical KING FM 98.1. Others will include AidaLa bohème, Madame Butterfly and a host of heavy hitters you can check out here. Fans can listen via online.
