Watchsmith takes the complications on Apple Watch faces and makes them even smarter. With this new application, these informative little icons can swap themselves out for others depending on what time of day it is.

The Watchsmith complication can be any of a range of possibilities, like a graphical view of your schedule, weather data, progress toward Activity goals, and more. But the complications built into Apple Watch can do that also.

What makes this newly-released third-party application different is that the type of complication can change on a schedule. For example, it can display weather information from 6 am to 8 am, then calendar details until 6 pm, then the Moon phase for the rest of the day.

A user can configure multiple Watchsmith complications, each with its own schedule and set of icons. These are set up in an iPhone app and then automatically transferred to the Apple Watch.

This application debuted April 7, and Watchsmith 1.0.1 is still currently very much a work in progress. Many of the features only work on 40mm or 44mm Apple Watch models, for example, limiting them to Series 4 and Series 5.

Watchsmith from developer Timely Complications is available now on the App Store. It’s free with a basic set of functions, while a $1.99 a month or $19.99 a year subscription adds additional complications.
