World renowned soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo bought the entire Juventus squad iMacs after getting a red card in a 2018 Champions League match against Valencia.
The Portuguese superstar player was reduced to tears after being sent off for pulling the hair of defender Jeison Murillo. Although Juventus won the match 2-0, club rules stipulated by boss Massimiliano Allegri meant Ronaldo had to buy gifts for the rest of his team. Eventually he settled on iMacs.
“It took a very long time because he couldn’t process that red card, and insisted high and low that he was not doing anything wrong,” fellow player Wojciech Szczesny told Polish talk show Prosto w Szczene. “It took him a bit, about two months of arguing, but we all have received an iMac.”
Cristiano Ronaldo is seemingly an Apple fan. A report published earlier this year notes that the world-famous soccer star still listens to his music on a 2010-era iPod shuffle.
It seems that this isn’t the only time that Apple has benefitted from bad behavior during soccer games, either. During the same Prosto w Szczene talk show,Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny said that he bought Beats headphones for his teammates when he turned up late for training. “When I arrived half an hour late on the training field, everyone said: ‘oh, we’re getting presents!’ I ended up buying headphones for the boys,” he recalled. (Apple owns Beats thanks to a $3 billion acquisition in 2014.)
