The iPad and iPhone version of Pixelmator will soon get its first major update in years, according to its developer. And the macOS version of this graphics application is also getting new features.

Pixelmator for iOS isn’t abandonware

The last major update to Pixelmator for iPad and iPhone was version 2.4, released in 2017. That left some users wondering if it would ever get another one. Especially after the release of Pixelmator Photo last year, an app with many of the same features.

But a post on the company blog today says “After a brief hiatus of two and a half years or so (we kid, we kid), Pixelmator for iOS is getting a major update.”

In the short term, the app will get a new Files-based document browser. And a new image size presets and photo browser are also on the way.

But in the long term, much more significant improvements are in development. The Pixelmator Team promises that “little by little, we plan to refresh and improve the app and, eventually, make it compatible with Pixelmator Pro.” The company doesn’t have a timeline for when this will happen.

Pixelmator for iOS 2.5 is in beta testing now.

Pixelmator Pro and Pixelmator Photos getting updates too

This company’s macOS app didn’t get ignored for a long time — it was updated several times last year. So the fact that new features are on the way isn’t surprising. “Our focus for Pixelmator Pro this year is on making the app even more user-friendly and enjoyable to use,” said the company’s blog post.

It’s currently working on Pixelmator Pro 1.6 Magenta, which is in beta testing. It’ll have a better color picker, as well as other additions that weren‘t specified today.

The same goes for Pixelmator Photo. The first version of this iPad image-editing application came out last April. Version 1.2 will add Split View and other new features.
