The official Apple TV app is now available on select 2019 TVs from LG. You can enjoy it today in the U.S. and 80 other countries around the world. LG says the app will expand its reach to 2018 sets later this year.

The Apple TV app lets you watch all the content you’ve purchased from iTunes, and stream original shows on Apple TV+. There are full seasons of The Morning Show, See, and more waiting for you.

You can also subscribe to Apple TV Channels, which offer access to premium video services from third-party providers, such as CBS All Access, NBC, and Starz. And you no longer need an Apple device.

Apple TV comes to LG screens

Once your LG TV is updated to the latest software, you can access the Apple TV app from the LG Home launcher. “A quick click of the LG Magic Remote is all it takes to get started,” LG said.

LG confirmed earlier this year that the Apple TV app will be pre-installed on its next-generation sets for 2020. This update brings the app to select 2019 sets that are already out there — specifically those that also support AirPlay 2.

OLED and NanoCell TVs are getting the update first, followed by select UHD TVs later this month, LG said. Some 2018 LG sets will also get the Apple TV app “later this year” in a firmware update. It doesn’t seem like older sets will be getting the same upgrade.

Apple TV+ a disappointment for now

LG isn’t the only company now offering the Apple TV app. Amazon, Samsung, Sony, and Vizio have also pledged their support and started rolling it out to TVs of their own. But those tuning in to Apple TV+ may be disappointed at the catalog of content on offer.

Although we’ve enjoyed Apple’s originals so far — The Morning Show is particularly excellent — there’s not a great deal on offer once you’re done with the headliners. In fact, Apple hasn’t added any new content to its streaming service in the past two weeks.

There is a lot more planned for 2020, however.
