Apple’s ‘Shot on iPhone‘ campaign is taking over TikTok, only probably not in the way Apple would like.

‘Shot on iPhone’ ads have been used by Apple for years to highlight the amazing quality of videos and photos that can be captured by normal people. Now TikTok users are reappropriating the term to show the type of dumb videos most people actually shoot on their iPhones and the results are absolutely hilarious.

Check out this compilation of funny ‘Shot on iPhone’ TikToks:

For those of you that haven’t jumped on the TikTok train yet, think of the app as basically the new Vine, only videos can be longer and musical elements and dancing are encouraged. Memes ooze out of every pour of the platform as users copy and remix ideas and different formats. For example, World War 3 themed TikToks became one of the most popular memes on the platform shortly after Trump assassinated Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

The ‘Shot on iPhone’ TikTok meme has been slowly growing in popularity over the last couple of weeks with #shotoniphone currently boasting over 70 million views. There’s also a “Shot on Android” meme bubbling up where Apple fans pretend to be hyped about their new Android phone while filming super pixelated footage.

Even though TikTok was originally aimed at teens, I’ve somehow gotten sucked into the app over the last couple of months mostly due to the addictively funny and ridiculous short videos created by everyday weirdos. Even though the ‘Shot on iPhone’ meme pokes fun at the prestige Apple’s marketing campaign has tried to build, it also shows how much creativity you can squeeze out of your smartphone.

If you’ve been holding off on giving a chance, these memes just might get you hooked.
