Apple plans to deliver a refreshed MacBook Pro with a brand-new scissor switch keyboard in 2020.

One reliable analyst says we can expect to see the machine late in the second quarter or early in the third quarter. Apple could unveil it at its annual Worldwide Developer Conference next June.

We’ve been patiently waiting for Apple to confirm a brand-new 16-inch MacBook Pro. Previous reports said it would be available this fall. We were hoping it would land this week after AirPods Pro.

That’s yet to happen — and now it seems the wait could drag.

Brand-new MacBook Pro will drop in 2020

Reliable TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to launch a new MacBook Pro with a redesigned scissor switch keyboard in mid-2020.

The keyboard will be manufactured primarily by Wistron, Kuo reports in a research note seen by MacRumors.

The new MacBook Pro could also bring new display technology, and will undoubtedly be powered by the latest Intel chips. However, there have been suggestions that Apple is preparing for a change.

It is believed Cupertino is hard at work designing its own ARM processors for the Mac — like those it already packs into iPhone and iPad. And they could finally arrive in 2020.

What about the 16-inch MacBook Pro?

It’s unclear at this point whether the new notebook Kuo refers to in his note is the 16-inch model. That was expected to arrive before the end of 2019.

Kuo previously predicted we would see the machine this fall — with a new keyboard — and he’s usually right on the money. But there’s always a chance upcoming products will be hit by delays.

Apple has also promised an all-new Mac Pro before the year is out, so there’s a chance a refreshed MacBook Pro will launch alongside it. It’s starting to look a little unlikely now, though.
