Scrolling through your Instagram feed in the middle of the night just got a lot easier on the eyes.

Instagram introduced support for iOS 13’s Dark Mode this week along with some new security tools that help people identify phishing attempts from emails that appear to be from Instagram.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, revealed the new Dark Mode addition on Instagram late last night. The feature works on iPhones and iPads running iOS 13 as well as Android 10 phones.

Once the Dark Mode update rolls out to your iPhone Instagram will automatically switch to the blacked-out theme if you have Dark Mode selected in your iPhone’s settings. Unfortunately, there’s no toggle for light or dark mode in the Instagram app. To turn on dark mode system-wide on your iPhone go to Settings > Display & Brightness and select “Dark” in the appearance section.

Instagram beefs up security

To help prevent phishing email attacks on users, Instagram added a new way to verify if an email sent to you really is from an official Instagram address. Anytime you get an email claiming to be from Instagram you can go to the “Emails from Instagram” section in the security settings of the app. Every email sent to you in the last 14 days is shown in the section.

If you receive an email that isn’t in the Emails from Instagram section do not click on any of the links it contains. If you did click on a link before realizing it’s from a fake address, visit Instagram’s help page for help on getting your account back.
