This week’s Fortnite update will bring a mounted turret to Battle Royale.

The new weapon will need to be fixed to the ground and is likely to pack a ton of power — but you’ll need to watch how you use it because it can overheat.

Epic Games has been adding more and more powerful weapons to Battle Royale. It started with the heavy shotgun and heavy sniper, while last week’s update brought a new heavy assault rifle that looks a lot like an AK-47 and deals an insane amount of damage.

But those weapons probably won’t be any match for the upcoming mounted turret.

Make way for the mounted turret in Battle Royale

We don’t know much about the mounted turret yet; all we have so far is the teaser above that appeared inside Battle Royale today. But its description offers some hints at what we can expect.

“Place the Mounted Turret and hop in to apply some suppressive fire” suggests the weapon will work much like a Port-a-Fort — you’ll throw it down on the ground or on a structure, then use it from a fixed position. You won’t be able to move around with it.

It also indicates the turret will be player-controlled; it’s not a sentry gun that will automatically eliminate enemy players. It will likely have unlimited ammunition, but you won’t be able to fire for lengthy periods because the weapon will overheat.

It’s not yet clear how much damage the turret will deal to players or materials.

Look out for the mounted turret this week

We can expect to see the mounted turret added in this week’s Fortnite update. Epic usually teases new additions just a few days before they are added to the game.

We’ll have to wait and see whether it will be a positive addition, or whether the turret can be added to the growing list of questionable tweaks to Battle Royale that frustrate long-time fans of the game.

Are you looking forward to using it?
