Fortnite celebrates its first birthday today, and Epic Games is giving away some special rewards to celebrate. But there’s a catch!
You’ll need to complete in-game challenges to claim each one. Here’s our guide to beating all three.
Epic is great at ensuring that there’s always something new to enjoy in Fortnite. Its weekly patches give us new challenges to complete, and new weapons and equipment to enjoy.
This week, to celebrate Fortnite’s first birthday, there are an additional three challenges that will reward you with special birthday items. They’re all relatively easy and won’t take you too long.
Deal 1,000 damage to opponents
Dealing 1,000 damage sounds like a lot, but if you play Battle Royale regularly, you’ll have this challenge completed in no time. You might even get it done in one match if you’re good at racking up multiple kills.
You don’t need to use certain weapons for this, so any shots you land will count. Explosive damage is also accepted.
Reward: Fortnite birthday emoticon
Dance at 10 different birthday cakes
This challenge is by far the easiest of the three, but it will take you several matches to complete. All you need to do is locate ten of the birthday cakes installed around the Battle Royale map and dance in front of them.
You can use any of the dancing emotes to complete this, and to help, here’s a map of all the birthday cake locations, courtesy of Eurogamer.
Before you move on, be sure to look out for consumable cake pieces that will be on the floor around each cake. Eat them and you’ll be granted +5 health and +5 shield immediately.
Reward: Happy Birthday spray
Play 14 matches
It’s not easy to earn XP in Battle Royale, but thanks to this challenge, you can grab a ton of it simply by playing matches.
You’ll need to play 14 in total. It doesn’t matter what position you finish in, and all game modes count.
Reward: 5,000 XP
Bonus!
There’s a fourth reward up for grabs — the birthday cake back bling — but you don’t need to do any extra work to claim it. As soon as you’ve completed the three challenges above, it’s yours.
You have until August 7 to work through these challenges, which should give you plenty of time. If you’re on vacation and you’ve left your console at home, you remember you can complete them in Fortnite for iOS instead.
