Google today rolled out a new Maps update for iOS that makes accessing commute information easier than ever.

A new one-tap access bar at the bottom of the app lets you quickly view nearby restaurants and hotels, real-time traffic data, and transit information.

“Whether we like it or not, sometimes life just flies by. And in the moment, every minute counts,” Google says. “Just one minute can be the difference between catching the last train or walking home in the rain. Or getting to that new restaurant in time to snag the last table.”

One-tap access to commute information

Google made commute information easier to access on Android last February. Finally, a year later, the same access bar is gracing iOS. You’ll find it at the bottom of the screen, with buttons for Explore, Driving, and Transit.

Tapping Explore will present you with nearby places where you can eat, drink, shop, and sleep. Driving displays real-time traffic information, helping you avoid congested roads. The transit tab tells you which buses and trains will soon be departing your area.

Swipe up on any of these menus to expand them and see more information.

“No matter what iOS device you’re using, Google Maps can get you where you’re going and help you explore the world around you,” Google says.
