WhatsApp for iPhone just got a big update that makes it easier than ever to keep your conversations flowing.

The world’s most popular messaging app now supports picture-in-picture video playback, and plays YouTube videos without sending you to another app.

Until now, watching a YouTube video sent to you in WhatsApp meant being redirected to the YouTube app (if you have it installed) or Safari. This took you away from your conversation. But that doesn’t happen with WhatsApp version 2.17.81.

WhatsApp plays YouTube

The new update adds inline YouTube playback, which means videos play right within your conversation. This means you’re more likely to reply and keep the conversation flowing.

And if you want to reply before the video is finished, or you need to respond in another conversation, you can do so while your video continues to play in picture-in-picture mode.

This update also makes it easier to record longer voice messages. You can swipe up to lock the recording button, rather than holding down on it for the duration of your message.

You can download WhatsApp version 2.17.81 from the App Store now.
