Best iPhone 8 cases and iPhone 8 Plus cases

Even though iPhone 8 and 8 Plus just hit the market today, you can find a wide variety of cases available already. There’s one for every possible lifestyle, from extreme sports to business mogul. Still, we’re bound to see even more iPhone 8 cases in coming weeks — we’ll update this post as we find good ones.

If you’re in the market for a leather iPhone case, Mujjo’s offering gives you a stylish alternative to Apple’s official case. You only get to pick between tan and gray color schemes, but both look attractive.

The big difference, when compared to Apple’s option, is a card pocket, which gives you ready access to your credit card, ID card, train ticket or whatever you want to hold there. That’s possibly less important if you’re an Apple Pay user, but it’s there if you need it.

Otterbox Strada Series Folio

Otterbox is famous for making tough cases, but they are often a bit, well, bulky. A notable exception is the Strada Series Folio, an impact-resistant case with a nice leather cover that folds over the front of the iPhone to protect the screen.

Made of premium leather, the front cover packs a slot inside for a card or cash. When closed, it’s held in place with a magnet, which does a good job in the anti-flapping department. When it’s closed, it stays closed. The leather flap can also be folded around the back to make a stand for the phone, which proves very handy for reading or watching video.

Although it’s relatively slim, the Folio offers OtterBox’s Certified Drop+ Protection, which means the company conducted more than 24 tests and 238 hours of testing.

The Strada Folio is easy to get on and off, and comes in a variety of colors and finishes: black, off-white, chestnut brown and a greeny-blue. Recommended!

Apple iPhone 8 Silicone Case

Apple’s silicone case pretty much does what it says on the tin … err, silicone. It’s a standard-issue case that comes in a choice of nine colors. You can rock your new iPhone 8 in a Pink Sand or Dark Olive jacket, should you wish.

It won’t give you a whole lot of heavy-duty protection, but will keep your precious new iPhone from slipping through your fingers. It also should give it a bit of extra protection from minor bumps — as well as keeping your new handset scratch and grime-free.

Plus, since it’s made by Apple, this is one of the few cases that’s not going to make Jony Ive’s stomach turn should he see you using it on the street.

Edward Field iPhone 8/8 Plus leather wallet case

These stylish leather iPhone wallet cases streamline your daily carry.

Exquisitely hand-crafted out of luxurious Italian leather, Edward Field’s wallet cases turn your iPhone into an organizational powerhouse. Slots inside the front cover hold several credit cards, while interior pockets provide a perfect place to stash receipts or some cash.

Obviously it’s a little less streamlined than some other options, but even when loaded up with cards and a bit of money, it remains surprisingly svelte.

A microsuction panel holds your iPhone — with or without a slim protective case — firmly in place. We’re big fans of these American-made iPhone wallet cases and have been since the San Francisco company launched in 2015. They come in black and brown, and they only look better as they age.

Speck Presidio

No, it’s not the most imaginative option, but a clear case will keep your iPhone protected without hiding its design.

Speck’s Presidio line offers a number of different iPhone cases for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, ranging from an extra-grippy surface to ones boasting floral patterns. What they all have in common is a slightly bulkier case design that promises a bit more protection than the options we’ve mentioned so far.

Our personal pick would be the clear case, which helps answer the immortal question: How best to keep your iPhone protected from drops, while not completely hiding its attractive design? The Speck metallic iPhone case isn’t bad, either — and promises to keep your iPhone safe during falls of up to 10 feet.

In terms of protection, this one won’t offer you a whole lot more drop protection than the silicone case. What it does offer you is a higher-quality finish with a range of attractive colors, including Saddle Brown and Charcoal Gray. It’s my personal favorite of Apple’s offerings, although it’s a bit pricier than the silicone version.

Slickwraps

Another option if you want to retain the natural beauty of your iPhone, while offering some protection, would be to go with Slickwraps. Essentially stick-on skins that cover your entire iPhone (not just the back), Slickwraps let you choose from a variety of looks. You’ll find everything from a transparent “naked” wrap to wood, metal and even superhero-themed ones.

In a nice touch, Slickwraps throws in a free anti-scratch tempered glass screen protector with every purchase. Oh, and the company promises “goo-free” removal once you’ve finished with the case, too!

UAG Metropolis

If you really want to keep your new iPhone secure, and don’t mind keeping it in a relatively chunky case in order to do so, you may want to check out UAG’s Metropolis case. Like the Mujjo leather wallet, it provides space for your credit cards. But that’s where the similarities end. The Metropolis’ heavy-duty design is rugged enough, its creators claim, to keep your handset safe from drops.

Unlike most of the other cases on this list, the Metropolis protects both the front and back of your phone. Despite its solid, clamshell-style case, it remains Apple Pay-compatible and gives you easy access to the touchscreen and ports.
