Pokémon GO developers Niantic have debuted three new Legendary Pokémon in the popular augmented reality game.

The trio of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, from the Gold, Silver and Crystal incarnations of the game, are arguably the best Legendary Pokémon yet. Although to catch ’em all you’re going to need to shell out for some plane tickets. (Or exhibit a bit of patience!)

All around the world

That’s because, in a neat touch, the new Legendary Pokémon don’t just spawn randomly in local areas, but also stick to specific regions of the Earth. Starting today, Raikou, an Electric-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout the Americas. Entei, a Fire-type Legendary Pokémon, can meanwhile be discovered throughout Europe and Africa. Finally, Water-type Legendary Pokémon Suicune only pops up through the Asia-Pacific region.

That will change on September 30 when all three move to a different location. Then, on October 31, they will move to their final stop so that everyone gets one month of access to each. While this still ensures that everyone gets a shot at unlocking each of the Legendary Pokémon, it adds a cool new dynamic that will (temporarily) give everyone a slightly different roster of characters to pursue.

Niantic also today announced that they will begin field testing a feature called EX Raid Battle – also known as the Exclusive Raid Battle – on September 6. This will later roll out to everyone.

Gotta Catch ‘Em All

While not quite as hot as when it launched, Pokémon GO has received a number of nifty updates this year. It started on a high note with a long overdue roster upgrade, adding 80 new creatures, including Pokémon from the Gold and Silver games.

The Legendary Pokémon have been the cause of most of the excitement, however. The promise of special, ultra-rare, limited edition Pokemon triggered the game’s highest grossing day ever, with players spending a massive $5.8 million dollars worldwide.

If you haven’t downloaded Pokémon GO yet, you can do so here. It’s available for any iPhone or iPad running iOS 8.0 or above.
