Apple’s internal code names for this year’s iPhone upgrades have leaked out — and there are only two of them. The leak could confirm that there will be no “iPhone 7 Pro” model sold at a premium, as some reports have suggested.
Speculation surrounding an iPhone 7 Pro has died down a lot in recent months, leaving fans to believe the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus would be the only options available come September. But a photo that surfaced earlier this week changed that.
The image depicted an apparent iPhone 7 Pro — with dual-lens camera and Smart Connector — alongside an iPhone 7 Plus that looked almost identical to the smaller iPhone 7, only larger. Neither the iPhone 7 Plus or the iPhone 7 had the dual-lens camera or Smart Connector upgrades.
We suspected the image was dodgy, and now leaked code names for the iPhone 7 series all but confirm there is no “Pro” model in the lineup. Reliable tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) tells us there are just two iPhone 7 models, which are dubbed “Sonora” and “Dos Palos” inside Apple.
The 2 (two!) 2016 iPhone models are codenamed Sonora and Dos Palos.

Blass’ track record has been great, so we certainly have more faith in this tweet than those sketchy photos we’ve seen. But we won’t know for certain what Apple will deliver this fall until it’s officially unveiled.
