The Apple Car may be a few years off, but a new deal signed between Ford and Apple is bringing Siri to 5 million more cars.

According to a new report, a software update available today means that any Ford owners who bought a Ford car with SYNC functionality after 2011 can take advantage of Siri Eyes Free by initiating a long press of the voice recognition button on their steering wheel.

This brings up the option of making a call, looking up phone numbers or localized points of interest, setting a reminder, finding weather information, playing music, reading and sending text messages, or accessing mapping information.

The update can be downloaded via Ford’s Owner portal, although Ford customers in Europe must currently take their vehicles to their local dealership to have it installed — with a download set to be made available at a later date.

Siri Eyes Free isn’t quite CarPlay in its functionality, missing a lot of CarPlay’s features, but this is still a useful (and welcome) upgrade for Ford customers!
