You can finally use gift cards in the Apple Store app

Apple updated its Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad today to include support for something it probably should have supported a long time ago: gift cards. If you have an Apple Store gift card – or multiple gift cards – you can now successfully apply them to an order within the app.

To add your gift card to an order, just tap the new “Add a gift card” option on the Checkout page. You can manually type in the PIN number or scan it using the camera like you can with iTunes gift cards.

Previously, you could only use Apple Store gift cards online (at the actual website) or in physical stores. It’s pretty relieving to know that if you receive an Apple Store gift card moving forward, you can actually redeem it regardless of your shopping method.

Speaking of the Apple Store app, the update also changed the terminology a bit to be more in line with the recent Apple website makeover. Your shopping cart is now called your “Bag.” You can still add multiple items and check out when you’re ready. The new terminology for the website and Apple Store app represent better uniformity across online and in-store shopping.
