DJ Zane Lowe is clearly intent on getting Beats 1 kicked off with a bang, since he has posted an image to Instagram revealing that hip-hop artist Eminem will be his first guest interview when Apple Music launches next week.

Lowe joined Apple from BBC Radio 1 earlier this year, where he had previously interviewed top-tier music names including Eminem, Kanye West, Jay Z, Rick Rubin, and Chris Martin.

Alongside exclusives like Pharrell’s new single “Freedom,” artist interviews are likely to be a big part of the draw for Beats 1 — and getting Em on board certainly makes Apple’s world-beating (make that Spotify-beating!) ambitions clear.

Eminem and Apple have mixed history together. Ten years ago in 2005, the rapper appeared on an iPod and iTunes commercial to help promote his greatest hits compilation “Curtain Call: The Hits.”

However, Eminem’s publisher, Eight Mile Style, and record company, Aftermath Records, have also previously sued Apple for allegedly making the rapper’s music available for download without permission. The case was settled out of court.

A lot has happened in the decade since, of course — not least Eminem’s mentor Dr. Dre joining Apple as part of the $3bn Beats deal. As if Eminem needed another reason to be the first guest of honor on the world’s most exciting new music venture!

Taylor Swift next, anyone?
