China pre-orders 2 million iPhone 6 handsets in just 6 hours

Apple couldn't be more popular in China -- among customers, that is!
More than 2 million Chinese customers have already placed orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Forget those ridiculous rumors that the huge quantities of smuggled handsets had all but killed iPhone 6 interest in China! According to new reports coming out of China, both retailers and carriers have taken in a massive 2 million reservations just six hours after putting the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on earlier-than-expected pre-order.

It was previously announced that customers would be able to place orders for the iPhone on Friday, October 10, with the devices finally going on sale one week later on October 17.

However, that edict appears to have been ignored, since all three major Chinese carriers — including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom — are already taking orders.

“We are thrilled to bring iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to our customers in China on all three carriers at launch,” Tim Cook said in a press release. “With support for TD-LTE and FDD-LTE, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus customers will have access to high-speed mobile networks from  for an incredible experience.”

According to reports, the majority of Chinese pre-orders are for the 64GB iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models, which are both priced at close to $1,000.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were delayed in China as the result of trouble for Apple securing the necessary regulatory approvals from the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In its absence, rival company Samsung rushed to release their new flagship handset in the country.

Despite China’s absence, however, Apple’s eagerly-anticpated handsets sold 10 million+ units in their opening weekend alone. Let’s see what can happen with China added to the mix!
