The official iOS 6.1 Evasi0n jailbreak tool has been released for iOS devices. Evasi0n will jailbreak all iOS devices capable of running iOS 6.0-6.1, including the iPhone 5 and iPad mini. The only current device that is not supported is the third-gen Apple TV.
The Evad3rs, a group of prominent iOS hackers behind past jailbreaks, have released their free tool for iOS 6.1 online. There are Mac, Windows, and Linux versions.
You can download the new jailbreak tool on the Evasi0n website. A progress bar has been showing the development progress for the long-awaited iOS 6.1 jailbreak over the past week. The jailbreak went into private beta testing a few days ago.
Now anyone with an iOS device running iOS 6.1 can jailbreak and install Cydia, an alternative App Store where you can download tweaks and hacks.
Before you use the Evasi0n tool to jailbreak, make sure you follow our how-to guide to prepare your device. It shouldn’t take more than five minutes. The Evad3rs have three important notes they want you to know before jailbreaking:
Backup your iOS device using iTunes or iCloud before using evasi0n. This way you are sure to never lose any data if something wrong happens.
Please disable the lock passcode of your iOS device before using evasi0n. It can cause issues.
Be patient while the jailbreaking process is running, don’t start iTunes or Xcode in the meanwhile. The best is to not touch the computer until the end of the jailbreaking process.
There’s a link on the website to donate towards the efforts that went into making this jailbreak. It’s taken many months for a small group of dedicated hackers to crack iOS 6 on Apple’s newest hardware. The least you can do is give them a few bucks.
The iOS 5 jailbreak was released around the same time last year for the iPhone 4S and second-gen iPad. This latest iOS 6.1 jailbreak supports nearly the full gambit of iOS devices (with the exception of the newest Apple TV), including all of the hardware Apple introduced in 2012.
