Speaking at an interview at D: All Things Digital today with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at some new directions for Siri.

“I think you’re going to be pleased with where we’re taking Siri.” Cook alluded to more breadth from the voice-enabled assistant, as well as admitting that there is more the technology could do.

Mossberg pushed a bit at Cook, pointing out that Siri doesn’t work a lot of the time and that it’s still in beta.

“I think Siri has proven to us that people want to relate to the phone,” said Cook. “Voice recognition has been around a long time, but what makes Siri cool is that she has a personality.”

Siri’s intelligence is another area Cook thinks can be improved. On Siri’s artificial intelligence, Cook said, “People have dreamed of this for years, and it’s here. Yes it could be broader, but Siri as a feature has moved into the mainstream. So I think you’re going to be really happy with where it’s going. We’re doubling down on it.”
