JawBone Launches BIG JAMBOX

If you have been reading Ken Segall’s new book about Apple, Insanely Simple, then you’ll recognize the hallmarks of simplicity all over JawBone’s work. Even the e-mail containing the press release for its new speaker reads as little more than “Jawbone just released a BIG JAMBOX.”

That’s what it’s called. The BIG JAMBOX. And from its name, you know almost all there is to know about it.

The BIG JAMBOX weighs 2.7lbs (1.23kg) and measures 10.1 inches (25.6cm) x 3.2 inches (8cm) x 3.7 inches (9.3cm). It’s meant to be used as a home speaker, but can be picked up and carried around like its little brother, and has a 15-hour battery life. Live Audio and the microphone make it in, so you can use all the fancy voice commands that you can with the regular JamBox.

But the point here is the sound, and early reports say that it does indeed pump out the bass as you’d expect, especially since the little JamBox already does such a good job. Connected via Bluetooth (using AirPlay on iOS devices), this should be the perfect companion for movie watching or parties on the roof terrace.

The bigger JAMBOX also gets some much-needed extra buttons, with play, pause and track skip up on top, letting you leave the iPhone in your pocket. The design has also changed slightly. sure, it’s bigger (duh!) but the rubber top and bottom plates are gone, and the drilled, textured metal body now wraps all the way around.

The BIG JAMBOX is available for pre-order now at $300 (the regular JamBox is $200).
