Dubious iPhone 6s benchmarks show just 1GB of RAM

Everyone is expecting the iPhone 6s to boast 2GB of RAM, but according to a dubious source claiming to be an Apple developer, we may all be wrong.

Switzerland-based Instagram user Fabien Wanner has posted what he claims to be a Geekbench 3 screenshot of the new device, revealing RAM of “just” 1 GB — the same as the current iPhone 6.

The rest of the Geekbench rundown looks normal, with the device’s mobile OS being iOS 9.0, and an A9 chipset clocking in at 2.0 GHz.

As with any (potential) hoax, however, the key is often to show people what they expect to see for the most part. I’m not flat-out saying Wanner’s lying, but it’s certainly unusual practise for an Apple developer to be posting something that should otherwise be locked-down on his Instagram account.

The first person to report the higher 2GB of iPhone 6s RAM was well-connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that this will be the same for both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

According to Kuo, the iPhone 6s’ RAM is likely to be LPDDR4 RAM, compared to the LPDDR3 RAM used in the previous iPhone 6. The main difference between DDR3 and DDR4 are the price and the fact that the latter hits much higher clock speeds than the former.

All of Kuo’s early reports about the 6s have since been backed up by leaks (such as the recent one describing a strengthened shell for the device to avoid a #bendgate part 2), so I’d be surprised if today’s RAM report turns out to be anything more than a joke.

We’ll know for sure on September 9.

Come on , every year we are let down on by APPLE on the reported system RAM. Did anyone realistically think Apple would give us 2GB. in the ipad pro may be but not the phones.

I haven’t seen a lag on my iPhone with 1 GB of RAM. have you? I guess not. I think it boils down to the level of optimization you have with your hardware.

As pointed out on BGR, Swisscom shows “LTE” on their phones, not 4G. Fake screenshot.

The “LTE” or “4G” tag changes depending on a few factors, as i have experienced this and those aren’t the same thing.

Now, the fake part would be the “App” part of the screenshot, not the SB. Why would that SB be edited? That doesn’t even make sense…There’s no reason that being a swiss carrier or other carrier around the globe would make this genuine or fake.

Either way this could be fake or true, but you and a bunch of people are simply denying the idea of the 1GB or Ram with all your soul because “It cannot be” or “We don’t want that”

Wha if that ended up being the truth? Are you going to go crazy?
That’s the reason why you shouldn’t believe ANY rumor, convenient to you or not.
Only the final product holds the true answer.

At least it is 2.0 GHz! xD

As long as they don’t freaking making the lowest storage 16GB and make it 64G. 16GB is criminal and would make me switch phones if they do this again.

There’s that phrase, “…according to a dubious source claiming to be an Apple developer.” Really? Why even bother writing about it?
